Australian film The Dressmaker has passed the $20 million mark at the Australian box office in its 14th week on the big screen and will soon have a place in the all-time top 10.
The film has made more than $20,011,000 and will remain in cinemas across more than 50 locations for at least another week.
The take means it’s leap-frogged The Dish to enter the top 10 Australian films at the box office and is nipping at the heels of 2011’s Red Dog, but its final place won’t be determined until it finishes its run.
Starring Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving, the film focuses on Tilly Dunnage’s (Winslet) return to the remote town of Dungatar after she was sent away as a young child due to her involvement in the ambiguous death of a young schoolboy.
The confrontational film earned five AACTA Awards including the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Australian Film, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress and Best Costume design.
The Dressmaker received 10 nominations at this year’s Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards and well as eight nominations at the Australian Film Critics Association Awards.
