While some federal government MPs can’t shake their coal obsession, Australians have embraced renewable energy.
A Climate Institute survey of 2660 Australians found 96 per cent want Australia’s future energy mix to be dominated by renewables.
Survey participants gave the federal government poor marks on managing climate change and the transition to clean energy.
More than 70 per cent of people said they supported an orderly closure of old coal-fired power plants and transition to renewable energy sources.
The survey also found 55 per cent of people blamed electricity prices rises on privatisation and 44 per cent attributed hikes to poor policy making.
A third of people believed excessive gas exports were the cause of jacked up power bills.
