Elton John gave the mildest of indications that this could be his last tour Down Under.

The 68-year old entertainer told a packed out Brisbane Entertainment Centre that he has been touring for 47 years and said he’s unsure “how many times I will make it back”.

His announcement drew wild applause from the audience who may have been witnessing John’s final Brisbane concert.

The Rocket Man hitmaker also said one of the delightful aspects of visiting Australia was the chance to catch-up with “family” which he only ever saw when he returned Down Under.

Despite his age, there was no doubting his enthusiasm or energy on Tuesday.

John pumped the air with his fist, thumped his chest and called on the crowd to cheer between songs.

Not that the music legend needed too, but he seemed to enjoy standing up after each hit and calling on the crowd to cheer louder.

It’s what you might expect when one of the warm-up persons at The Voice or The X Factor shows to do.

His enthusiasm turned to sheer gratitude during the two-and-half hour performance as he started blowing kisses and continually thanking the crowd for their rapturous applause.

John’s next concert is at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Friday.

Elton John’s remaining tour dates:

Dec 11: Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Dec 12: A Day On The Green, Geelong

Dec 15: Entertainment Centre, Adelaide

Dec 19: Qantas Credit Union Arena, Sydney
